With the launch of the Competency-Based Curriculum in Kenya as ground-breaking in the education sector. It introduced a fresh perspective on how students acquire knowledge and skills, placing a strong emphasis on core competencies with conversion of the previous curriculum “classes” to now grades.
Junior Secondary School now Grades: 7, 8, and 9. Within these grades learners are introduced to the basic and foundational knowledge of the Senior year. With the core competency based education that provides a profusion of skillset and master knowledge like problem solving skills, holistic development, communication skills, digital literacy skills among other and knowledge like agri-nutrition. Learners are envisaged with alot of development and well rounded knowledge that prepares them for the real world matters.

The competency-based assessment ensures that students truly master the core competencies, rather than simply memorising information for the examinations.
